The Water is Wide

The Water Is Wide

Traditional folk tune, sometimes used as a hymn tune. There are a number of traditional verses; here are some I have adapted:

The water is wide; I can't get o'er
Neither have I wings to fly
Give me a boat to carry two
And both shall row, my love and I.

I leaned my back against an oak
Thought it would be a trusty tree
But first it bent, and then it broke
And so my love was false to me.

There is a ship that sails the sea
It's loaded deep as deep can be
But not as deep as the love I'm in
I don't know if I sink or swim.
